Youth for conference

Clutha's new youth council is set to meet other potential leaders when the Clutha District Council treats members to a national conference this year.

Almost all of the council members, at its meeting on Monday, indicated they were keen to make the trip to Christchurch for the 2008 Youth in Local Government conference.

Council district development manager Julie Pearse said it had received funding from the Mayors Taskforce scheme which would help cover the costs of transport by mini van, conference registration, accommodation and meals.

She believed the youth council, which began two months ago, deserved "this kind of investment" to show members were valued and so they could meet other youth councillors from around the country.

"We feel this group of young people are making a great commitment to the district."

The conference will be held from October 6-8.
