After a hiatus of a year due to Covid, ILT’s "The Loney Christmas Street Party" will be back on the street from 3pm today.
ILT marketing manager Angee Shand was pleased to once again bring the popular event to the city centre.
"This year, we are back to basics.
"This is a party to celebrate the end of the year and we see it as a really nice adult addition for what we think was a great array of community events already, which started with Southland’s Christmas Parade back in November and run through this whole month."
A block of the street will be closed for the event and a stage will be set up outside the Lone Star for the occasion.
Lone Star manager Kiriama Russell said food, drinks and live music from local bands would be on offer.
"We hope people turn up, have a great time and celebrate the end of the year."
People were being encouraged to dress up, inspired by the holiday spirit.
Local band All Night Long will be in the entertainment line-up.
Singer and guitar player Sean Blackie was excited to be part of the event.
He said the street party had a different vibe from when playing at pubs.
"It is a different kind of energy. It is just a good and happy vibe — especially this time of the year, being Christmas time and the last day of trade of the year.
"So I think people will really come together to have a good time."
