Stewart Island's volunteer fire crew were called to reports of a boat taking on water this morning.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said the a fire engine with a water pump had been sent about 11.30am to Thule Bay, in the Paterson Inlet side of the Oban township.
The incident was ongoing at 2pm this afternoon and the status of the boat was unknown, he said.
