Early morning fire at Invercargill police station

A small fire broke out at an Invercargill police station in the early hours of this morning.

A police spokeswoman said police were alerted to a fire in a vent at Invercargill Central Police Station in Don St just before 3am.

The station was evacuated for a short period of time and there were no injuries.

Initial indications suggested the fire was not suspicious.

The station would remain open as cleaning and repairs are carried out on the affected area today.
