Fresh appeal after schoolgirl approached

Invercargill police continue to seek information about a suspicious man who approached a 12-year-old girl last week.

Detective Sergeant Marc McCloy said today the man assaulted the girl on February 4, near a park in Iona St.

The pupil was walking to school between 8am and 8.30am, when the incident occurred.

"The young girl is understandably traumatised and we are working hard to support her and her family during this very difficult time."

The man was described as wearing dark clothing, dark wraparound sunglasses and dark head gear.

Det Sgt McCloy said police had increased patrols in the area and were treating the incident very seriously.

Anyone who may have information, or who may have been in the area over the past few weeks, were urged get in touch with police.
