Teen faces charge of wounding

A Gore teenager has been arrested after an assault that left another man with serious head injuries in Gore last Sunday.

Detective Sergeant Greg Baird, of Gore, said an 18-year-old Gore man was arrested yesterday and charged with wounding with intent in relation to the assault on Hamilton St in Gore on February 16.

He was due to appear in the Invercargill District Court yesterday, but police were unable to confirm whether he appeared.

Police were called to a report of people fighting with weapons in East Gore about 10pm last Sunday.

A 19-year-old Gore man remains in Dunedin Hospital with head injuries, he said. Police believed the incident started in the Lawrence St area before moving to Hamilton St.

Det Sgt Baird said police were still seeking witnesses.

Anyone with information about a dark blue Honda Civic and its occupants, seen in the area around the time of the assault, is asked to contact the Gore police on (03) 203-9300 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555-111.
