Highway reopens after crashed truck spills bitumen

A section of State Highway 6 has reopened in Southland after a truck crash closed it for several hours this morning.

Police said the single-vehicle crash occurred between Winton and Lorneville around 6am.

The driver was not injured, but bitumen spilled from the truck, forcing the road to be closed.

In an update around midday the NZ Transport Agency said the road had reopened, but a speed limit was on place owing to slippery conditions.
