It seems  Lake Hawea is the place to be and work is set to start on more than 70 new residential sections in the town’s Timfield subdivision.

Willowridge Developments has applied for resource consent to start engineering and earthworks on stage 6 of the Lake Hawea subdivision.

Developer Allan Dippie said there was certainly a lot of demand and the 76 sections were all sold.

"It’s certainly a lot of sections to do all at once but the demand is there for it, which is great."

There already had been quite a few inquiries about stage seven of the development, which is 68 sections.

Mr Dippie, who also has developments in Luggate and Wanaka, said at the moment it seemed sections in Lake Hawea were easier to sell than in Wanaka.

Price did play a part in the demand. Lots priced between $179,000 and $199,000, Mr Dippie said.

A reduction in the development contribution required by the Queenstown Lakes District Council allowed the company make the sections more affordable.

In March last year 30 sections from stage five of the development all sold within an hour.

Work on stage five was almost completed.

There was a good mix of people buying the sections, Mr Dippie said.

"We have quite a few younger couples but also some older ones, too, and there is a good mix of locals and people from out of town."

The development has consent for almost 300 residential sections and about 22ha of land set aside for possible residential and commercial development in the future.
