A smaller generator is being considered for a West Otago community centre.
Last month, the Clutha District Council announced a back-up generator would be based in its Tapanui community centre by the end of this year and the board looked at two sizes - 85kVa and 60kVa.
The generator will need to be run once a year, and will be used as the back-up generator for the West Otago Community Centre in Tapanui during power outages.
Clutha District Council district assets manager Jules Witt said it was important to make sure there were two or three tractors with a minimum of 120 horsepower close to Tapanui that were able to run the generator.
A 85kVa power takeoff (PTO) generator would cost the council about $17,400, and the smaller one a "few hundred dollars less".
The generator would be trialled before a final decision was made on whether to keep it.
The council planned to trial the PTO generator and a small hall generator (9kVa) for 12-18 months to evaluate their advantages and likely costs.
At its meeting on Wednesday, the community board raised concerns about council spraying around West Otago, saying pest plants had not been properly sprayed.
Mr Witt said spraying feedback had been positive across the district, apart from the West Otago area.
The council and its contractors would assess the problem, and Mr Witt expected it to be addressed in the next few weeks.
