Three hurt in crash near Haast

One person has been flown to Greymouth Hospital after suffering moderate injuries in a crash on the Haast Pass Highway this afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said police were still attending to the scene near Makarora Rd after being alerted of the incident at 1.25pm.

A St John spokeswoman said two other people suffered minor injuries and did not need transport to hospital.

The police spokeswoman said it was unknown at this stage whether it was a single or multi-vehicle crash but believed the road had been cleared and traffic was able to move freely.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
