Southland’s Student Volunteer Army is on the lookout for some generous souls to give groceries and other items for a good cause.
The group’s annual drive in support of the Ronald McDonald family room at Southland Hospital will be held from June 29 to July 17.
Student army major events and communication lead Jacob Wilkinson-Hall said the group was hoping to collect 1000 items for the family room this year.
"We chose to support Ronald McDonald House because a whole bunch of our members have [had] support from them in the past."
There was such a good response last year the group decided to make the drive an annual event, he said.
People could drop off items including non-perishable food, children’s games and activities and toiletries in bins provided by Kiwi Skips.
Collection points would be throughout Invercargill and Queenstown.
Kennards Hire would help transport the bins and the group was grateful to the two businesses for their help, he said.
The army was also running a Jingo fundraiser on July 1 at the Waikiwi Tavern in support of the Ronald McDonald family room.
Tickets for the event were just about sold and there were some good prizes, including a Milford Sound lunch cruise for four.
