Gore Kids Hub is celebrating 10 years of paying it forward; helping young families thrive and prosper with hopes of many more to come.

The centre was formulated in 2016, when a group of parents got together to put different organisations under one umbrella after the circumstances matched the need.

The need for purpose-built spaces for new parents coincided with the the toy library, parents’ centre and local play centre requiring a new home.

Board trustee Vicki Ramsay said it was the perfect time to create something special.

"It still baffles me this was built from the ground up on a dream and a vision.

"Three mums from different organisations got together, had a chat over a few wines and decided they could do it better if they all worked together."

From there it snowballed as the group quickly acquired grants and community support, then finally the Gore Kids Hub was built.

The collaborative approach continues today and thousands of parents and children have passed through in the past decade.

Mrs Ramsay said part of what made the space so special was the "real flow through" for parents, as classes started with antenatal education and carried all the way through, helping parents along the way.

It was more than just an education centre and fun place for children to enjoy — the social aspect was integral to the centre, she said.

"There are people from all walks of life here.

"They find their village, they find lifelong friendships.

"It’s a safe space," she said.

Facility manager Melissa Wishart said the mums she met while attending classes "made it out of the group chat".

They now holidayed together and had found great friendships.

"It is what you make it, it’s just about having the opportunity for people.

"You can be really involved if you want to," she said.

The future of Kids Hub lay with the parents, supporters and future generations of children.

Mrs Wishart called the centre a place to pay it forward to future parents, to put their effort into not just being the best for their children, but all Gore families.

"A lot of our organising and fundraising is for the next group of kids coming through, so they get the same opportunities as we had.

"We just want our kids to keep thriving, so I’m doing whatever I can.

"Vicky is doing whatever she can, to make sure the place is still here, up and running, keeping costs low for families," she said.
