• On January 26, Douglas William Binnie, 34, of Tapanui stole a Zephyr caravan worth $15,000 and a Honda farm motorbike worth $5000 from a farm shed run-off property in Mossburn.

At 12.30am, a member of the public, who saw the a picture of the stolen caravan on social media, informed police it was being towed by a ute in Balfour St.

Police caught up to the vehicle in Otama St.

Binnie told police he had "acquired" the caravan and denied stealing the motorbike.

Binnie was sentenced to six months of community detention, was required to complete 150 hours of community work and pay $4000, $50 per week, in reparation to the victim.

Binnie had appeared before the court previously for charges relating to "meth-induced violence", the judge said.

• On January 17, Bailey Michael Wallace, 25, drove a motor vehicle on Railway Esplanade while disqualified.

Wallace got into his wife's car to go to the Night ’n Day dairy to get Panadol for his unwell child, the court heard.

Wallace was disqualified from driving for six months and fined $2500.

• Simone Talia Campbell-Graham, 33, of Tapanui drove a friend’s car and when pulled over by police, blew a breath alcohol reading of 400mcg.

Campbell-Graham pleaded guilty to one charge of driving with excess blood alcohol, was disqualified from driving for six months and fined $600.

• On February 28, Tiernan Russell Beale, 38, of Mataura appeared on charges after he drove in Hokonui Dr under the influence of drugs, namely methamphetamine.

After being stopped by police, a blood test revealed 710ng of the class A drug per litre of blood.

• On March 15, Beale carelessly operated a vehicle and was fined $3000.

He will appear in the Gore District Court on June 6 to face three other charges which include the possession of knuckle dusters, an offensive weapon.

• Tyreze Te Maipi Adams, 19, of Mataura drove a vehicle in Pioneer Highway after drinking alcohol — the legal limit for under-20s is zero — and blew a breath alcohol reading 1mcg over the disqualification threshold of 150mcg.

Adams was disqualified from driving for three months and fined $150.

• On April 11, Connor Christopher O’Neill, 19, a shepherd of Northern Southland, drove without wearing a seatbelt after drinking alcohol.

When stopped by police in Boulder St, O’Neill was breath-tested and returned a reading of 599mcg — 1.5 times the legal limit for those over 20.

When asked in court why he got behind the wheel impaired, O’Neill said "I don’t know, I thought I’d be all right".

O’Neill was disqualified from driving for six months and fined $600.

• Rodney Scott Williamson, 56, of Riversdale, told the court after organising and attending a funeral he had consumed alcohol before leaving his hotel but "didn’t realise how much I had to drink".

Police pulled Williamson over and when breath-tested returned a reading of 588mcg. .

Williamson was disqualified from driving for six months and fined $600.
