The Gore District Library held its second "Crafternoon Tea" event last Tuesday.

People came along to begin, continue and complete their crafts from home and enjoy a hot beverage while doing it.

Knitting, crocheting, painting and drawing were included in crafts as locals enjoyed catching up with others and meeting newcomers to the event.

Gore Library community engagement staff Karen Bellew said it was a good way to get people back into hobbies.

"People can bring their own crafts and have time in a quiet place to do them," she said.

"For some people it’s a way to meet other like-minded people, and for others it’s a way to sit down and do the things they love."

She said the first Crafternoon Tea event was held last November.

"We had people coming to stay the entire time and some who did some crafts while passing through.

"It was a lovely time, and people shared their love for crafts with others."

She hoped people would come along each time the event was held.

"It’s a good time of day — people can come to relax and do their crafts while waiting to pick up their young ones from school, if they wanted."

"Anyone can come along, they are more than welcome."

The Gore District Library has various events planned, including a games night, menopause cafe, presentations during Southland Heritage Month, and more. Details can be found online at gorelibraries.govt.nz
