Eastern United player Scott Rome looks for a player to pass to as a Phoenix Orange player approaches during the Hockey Southland division one men’s final in Invercargill on Saturday.

The teams drew 2-2. However, it was Invercargill's Phoenix Orange which prevailed in the penalty goal shootout to take the title.

Coach Rob Dickie said in previous matchups Eastern had won one match and drawn the other two games.

"It’s been pretty close all year."

Eastern were good enough to win the match but "didn’t score enough goals".

"We just didn’t quite get there on the day."

George Hedley was the team’s most valuable player and Sam Copland, 16, was the most improved.
