In rainy conditions aptly suited to trout fishing, a crowd of residents and personalities gathered to watch Gore Mayor Ben Bell use a fishing rod to reveal a plaque bearing the name.
The 1.5-tonne statue, designed by local artist Errol Allison, has sat as a landmark for Gore since its unveiling in 1989, proudly displaying the fish caught in the Mataura River.
A competition launched in February to name the statue caught national attention and strong community input. - Report Supplied.
