Club members were out in force at the Southern Field Days at Waimumu yesterday, selling tickets for $100 each to go in a draw for a $175,000 New Holland tractor.
While it might seem ironic a vintage machinery club would be peddling a modern machine, it is all for a good cause.
Vintage enthusiast Bob Young said the club was outgrowing its premises in Winton and was fundraising to build a new shed.
It had printed 3200 tickets and more than half had already been sold, with the expectation of selling plenty more at the field days before the raffle was drawn tomorrow afternoon.
With such an expensive prize, three club members had to get their gambling licences in order to run the raffle, but the rewards were great, he said.
By noon yesterday, around 100 tickets had already been sold and Mr Young was hoping to sell 300 each day to passers-by.
Club president John Peterson already had his ticket and, if he won, he reckoned he would take it home to Athol and park it in his driveway for his neighbours to admire before trading it in on a small garden tractor.
