Basketball Otago was able to ‘‘deliver and reflect’’ in 2025.

That is how general manager Jodi Brown described the year in her annual report, which was presented at the association’s annual meeting on Saturday.

Basketball Otago recorded a deficit of $39,000 last year. That followed a loss of $6000 for the previous financial period.

‘‘If 2025 had a theme for Basketball Otago, it was deliver and reflect,’’ she wrote.

‘‘Throughout the year, our focus was firmly on continuing to provide quality competitions and programmes for our community and, with competitions running nearly every night of the week, that was no small task.

‘‘At the same time, we were equally committed to stepping back and asking the harder questions.

‘‘That kind of honest reflection isn’t always comfortable, but it is necessary and the work done throughout 2025 has left Basketball Otago in a stronger position.’’

The association completed a review of its competition structures and, as a result, had moved to a more sustainable model, Brown added.

The sport is experiencing a growth spurt, which has presented some challenges around resourcing and access to facilities.

Chairman Chris Cope said the financial result was ‘‘a timely reminder that growth must be managed carefully and sustainably’’, adding the association remained in a sound position.

Basketball Otago has equity of $157,000.

‘‘The board will continue to focus on financial discipline, funding diversification and ensuring our resources are well directed toward the areas that have the greatest impact for our basketball community,’’ Cope wrote in the annual report.
