Basketball: BBO to begin interviewing candidates for general manager position

Basketball Otago (BBO) has moved a step closer to replacing former chief executive Mark Rogers.

Rogers left in May to take up a similar role with the Tauranga City Basketball Association and the BBO took the opportunity to review its structure.

Progress has been slow but BBO chairman Ricky Carr said the interview panel had a shortlist of five candidates and would begin interviewing for the revamped role of general manger on Friday.

Carr is joined on the interview panel by BBO board member and Basketball New Zealand president John Gallaher and Otago Secondary Schools Association sports director Des Smith.

Carr said BBO hoped to make an appointment "as soon as practical".

"And that will depend on the person's ability to release themselves [from their employment] and for us to bring them in and welcome them into the organisation," Carr said.

Acting chief executive Sandy Wallace told the Otago Daily Times she had applied for the position and would be interviewed.

She has been steering the ship for the past five months.

"I have a passion for all sport but my main interests have been softball, basketball and rugby."

Wallace is the Softball New Zealand chief scorer and has managed a removal company in Dunedin for 10 years.
