Barringer (33), a field adviser for the Otago Regional Council, was named Otago bowler of the year at the Taieri Bowling Club last night.
The award is based on points gained during Bowls Dunedin championship events during the season.
Sue Hodges (Outram) won the women's competition on the countback, in a close contest with Trish Marr (St Clair).
Barringer won the Stan Seear Trophy with 20 points and was followed by Robbie Thomson (Fairfield) 16, and North East Valley bowlers Shaun Scott, Kelvin Budge and Mark Watt on 10.
He equalled Stewart McConnell's 30-year-old record when he reached the finals of the open triples, open fours and open singles. He won the triples and fours.
He clinched the bowler of the year award when he finished runner-up in the champion of champions triples late in the season.
Barringer was a promising bowler during his first stint in the game and was a member of the New Zealand training squad for five years.
But because of family commitments, he took a break from the sport for two years and only returned for local events this year. He did not make himself available for Bowls Dunedin teams.
It is the fourth time Hodges has win the Millie Khan Memorial Trophy for being the Dunedin women's bowler of the year. She also won in 2006, 2010 and last year.
Hodges won her 14th Bowls Dunedin title in the champion of champions triples, was runner-up in the open fours and was third equal in the open triples, champion of champions singles and fours.
Hodges and Marr both scored 16 points and were followed by Mary Stevenson (Outram) and Malia Tavite (Forbury Park) on 14.
Anne Craik (Fairfield) was named the coach of the year. She is a Bowls New Zealand-accredited coach and made her mark over the past year by coaching Kittyhawk and Dunedin secondary school bowlers.
Gold stars were awarded to Craig McCaw (Palmerston), Malia Tavite (Forbury Park), Lorraine Turnbull (Taieri), Anne Warrington-Blair (Outram) and Mark Watt (North East Valley) for winning their fifth centre title.
A third bar was awarded to Daphne Hynes (St Clair) and Lyn Rance (Green Island) for winning their 15th titles and a third bar to their gold stars.
The other Bowls Dunedin highlights of the year were achieved by patron Ian Roche (Queen's Service Medal), Mike Kernaghan (appointed Olympic and Commonwealth Games selector), Shaun Scott (won New Zealand singles title) and the Dunedin men's sevens team, which won the national intercentre title.
