Scott (46), a Cromwell fencing and pavement contractor, won six of his seven section games. His only loss was 21-16 to Safuan Bin Said (Malaysia), who is ranked third in the world.
Scott will play world No 2 Brett Wilkie (Australia) in this week's semifinals.
In his final two section games, Scott beat Japan's Hisaharu Satoh 21-8 and Canada's Michel Larue, 21-16 to finish section play third in the overall standings.
Shaun is the latest member of the Scott family to represent New Zealand. Other internationals are cousins Terry and Jim, aunt Noeleen, uncle Bill, and his father, Kevin.
The best-performed New Zealand team was the women's triples of Jan Khan, Leanne Curry and Genevieve Baildon, who won their six section games.
In their final two games, they beat the Philippines combination of Joy Tordoff, Asuncion Bruce and Milagros Witheridge 22-14 and Fiji's Olive Elaisa, Doreen O'Connor and Salanieta Gukivuli 25-8.
The New Zealand world champion pair of Jo Edwards and Val Smith won four of their six games to reach the semifinals.
In their final game, they beat Brunei 16-11 to confirm a place in the semifinals against Norfolk Island.
The men's four of Tony Grantham, Dan Delany, Ali Forsyth and Richard Girvan won five of their seven games. They were beaten by Australia's Mark Berghofer, Mark Casey, Nathan Rice and Aron Sherriff 28-5 in the final game.
They will face the United States in a play-off game to determine the last semifinal spot. The winner will play Malaysia in the semifinal.
Section play in the women's singles and fours and the men's pairs and triples will be played in Adelaide this week.
