New Zealand were advancing towards an emphatic victory in the first one-day cricket international against Bangladesh in Napier tonight.
Set an imposing target of 337 to win the match at McLean Park, the tourists were 129 for four at the midway point of their response.
They began briskly with Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes putting on an opening stand of 71 inside 11 overs before Kay departed for 33, caught behind off left-arm fast bowler Andy McKay.
McKay, on debut, then picked up his second wicket with another edge behind accounting for Mohammad Ashraful for five.
Captain Dan Vettori turned the screws by removing Raqibul Hasan and Iqbal within the space of four balls in the 22nd over.
Hasan was trapped leg before wicket for nine by the left-arm spinner and Iqbal's fine knock ended at 62 off 69 balls when he attempted to glance Vettori to third man only to offer a thin edge to wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum.
At the end of 25 overs, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim were both at the crease on single figures.
