The Sparks lost both one-dayers to Canterbury in Rangiora during the weekend and are at the bottom of the competition table with no points.
Yesterday, Canterbury posted 206 which should have been within reach for the Sparks, but the defending champions slumped to be all out for 147. Katey Martin top-scored with 35 and Leigh Kasperek chipped in with 25. The normally reliable Suzie Bates missed out. She was out for just nine.
Otago spinners Morna Nielsen (two for 43) and Emma Campbell (two for 35) did their part to keep the target down.
On Saturday, the Sparks lost a last-over thriller by six runs. There could have been a different outcome had Kasperek been able to get back on strike. She was stranded at the non-striker's end on 95 and watched helplessly as Millie Cowan and Emma Campbell made two-ball ducks.
The game was certainly there for the taking. Canterbury had posted 201 for seven in reduced 40 over affair. Amy Satterthwaite top-scored with 97.
Kasperek, who achieved her highest score, combined in a 109-run stand for the second-wicket with Bates (63). The pair had the visiting side on track for victory.
Martin picked up the slack when Bates was bowled but her dismissal in 37th over for 14 put enormous pressure on the incoming batsmen.
Canterbury's Frances MacKay held her nerve and bowled a fabulous last over to seal the win.
St Hilda's finished third in the national secondary schoolgirls competition last week.
It won three games in a rain-disrupted tournament in Palmerston North. Tawa College won the tournament.

It lost heavily to tournament winner Christchurch Boys' High School in its final game, being dismissed for 88. Christchurch Boys' knocked off the target in 14 overs, with all 10 wickets in hand.
