University-Grange 158
lost to Green Island 159 for four

Green Island’s Tom Beaton produced a second impressive batting effort to help his side record a comfortable win against University-Grange at Sunnyvale.

But the bulk of the work was done by the seamers. The defending champions put together a tight bowling display.

All-rounder Geordie Scott took four for 41 and evergreen medium pacer Dion Lobb claimed two for 26 from 10 overs.

University-Grange skipper Cameron Meads (26) and opener Ravi Rattihalli (24) got starts, and Myles Driscoll’s undefeated knock of 38 was helpful.

But 158 was never going to be enough and Green Island reached the target with 16 overs remaining.

Beaton once again showed what a promising acquisition he is with a rapid half century. He hit a six and four fours for 54 from 55.

He shared in a 98 run stand with Ant Harris (40 from 81) before offering a catch.

Scott, who shone with the ball, helped complete the victory with a knock of 33 not out.

Sam Noden was the best of the University-Grange bowlers with two for 29 from eight overs. He got rid of Gregor Croudis and Brad Kneebone early to offer his side some brief hope.

North East Valley 257 for eight
beat Albion 136

North East Valley boasted some international experience in the batting line-up this weekend.

But Neil Broom and Anaru Kitchen made a minimal contribution to Valley’s winning total of 257 for eight against Albion at Culling Park.

Broom nicked out for two and Kitchen was trapped lbw second ball, but did get off the mark with a single.

Both have played cricket for New Zealand, but left it to the regulars to do the bulk of the scoring.

Opener Will Kindley top-scored with 60 and combined in an 87-run second wicket stand with his brother Hunter Kindley (30).

Tom Griffin (38) and Llew Johnson (32) made solid contributions through the middle, and Sam Tallot’s undefeated 32 from 25 was a bonus at the end.

Tommy Clout was the pick of the bowlers, with one for 25 from nine overs, while Josh Cuttance was expensive with two for 60, but did claim the wicket of the dangerous Broom.

Ben Brady made rapid progress through the Albion top order, with three for 15 from seven overs. Among his victims was the veteran Jamie Glenn, who scored a century last weekend.

Clout (26) and Jamie Hunt (30) showed some resolve and put together a stand of 56 runs for the fifth wicket.

Kitchen may have missed out with the bat, but he struck with his left arm spinners, claiming three for 26 including both Clout and Hunt.

Taieri 98
lost to Carisbrook-Dunedin 99 for two

Taieri made a dismal start to its season with a poor batting performance against a resurgent Carisbrook-Dunedin at Tonga Park.

Taieri had the bye last weekend, but the extra preparation time did not come up trumps. It was routed for a miserly 98.

The good news is everyone got off the mark. But just the two players reached double figures and extras was the top score.

Carisbrook-Dunedin conceded 23 extra runs, but will not be too concerned.

Club player of the year Richard Sillars took four for 20 in an impressive spell, while Steven Newey claimed three for 23.

Former Wellington representative Fraser Colson top-scored with 15.

Camden Hawkins anchored the chase with an undefeated 34, and Jack Pryde chipped in with 27 not out as they ran down the target with more than 28 overs to spare.

Spinner Ben Lockrose picked up both the Carisbrook-Dunedin wickets to fall.
