NEV romps home with wickets to spare

North East Valley 132 for four beat Carisbrook-Dn 130 by six wickets

North East Valley was always in ascendancy against Carisbrook-Dunedin at Tonga Park.

The home team batted first and muddled its way through to 130. Sean Eathorne scored 42 but no-one else got anything much in the runs column that would help put the combined side in the hunt with a competitive total.

Jamie Murley managed to get six wickets as he went on a run of wickets that destroyed the Carisbrook-Dunedin middle order.

Tom Griffin led the way for the Valley side with 36 and the Valley team was never under any pressure throughout the match.

Kaikorai 165 beat Taieri 89 by 76 runs

In the match between Kaikorai and Taieri at Brooklands, in Mosgiel, Kaikorai was a convincing winner, although it scored only 165 in its turn at bay.

Ben Lockrose took three wickets for Taieri as the home side tried to lessen the target.

But that proved too much for the Taieri side when it batted.

Taieri, which has been struggling all season, could only get to 89 in 29 overs and could not get a decent partnership going.

Green Island 108 lost to Albion 112 for eight by two wickets

Albion had the final say in the 50-over competition with a close win over Green Island at Sunnyvale on Saturday.

It was not a great day for the batsmen and Albion only just got home chasing what was not a huge target.

Green Island batted first and was dismissed for 108 in the 19th over.

Nathan Watt hit 41 at the top of the order, hitting the ball to all parts of the landscape before he was out near the end of the seventh over.

No-one else got among the runs as Teja Nidamanuru took five wickets at minimal cost.

Albion struggled in its reply as Dion Lobb took four wickets and had the side in trouble. Josh Tasman-Jones got his side through to 74 with a valuable 35 but Green Island sniffed a win.

However, some wise batting got Albion through to the winning total in the 30th over.
