St Hilda's wins national title

St Hilda's Collegiate School has collected a second national secondary schools title in three years.

The school beat Christchurch Girls' High School in a tense final in Lincoln yesterday.

St Hilda's posted a challenging 127 for three from its 20 overs thanks to 38 from Olivia Gain and a rapid undefeated 55 from Eden Carson.

The pair put on 80 for the third wicket to set up a daunting target for the home team.

Carson took two for 26 to help restrict Christchurch Girls' to 118 for eight.

St Hilda's Collegiate coach Neil Rosenburg could not be reached for comment,

However, he led the side to its first title in 2016 and described that side as the best he had seen in 20 years.

That team has some stiff competition now, with the likes of Gain, Carson and Emma Black all having strong tournaments.

The three players skipped an Otago Sparks game to attend the tournament and appear to have bright futures.

St Hilda's actually had to play Christchurch Girls' earlier in the day and had a six-wicket win.

Both Gain (49) and Carson (31) were to the fore again.
