Dunedin Technical overran Mosgiel at Memorial Park, scoring six goals, with Taylor McCormack celebrated his transfer from Green Island by banging in a hat trick.
No doubt the Mosgiel pre-match talk centred on a steady start, but Technical coach Aaron Burgess had his team fired up, and swarming maroon shirts pressed from the starting whistle.
Alistair Rickerby impressed with hard running and won possession on the right before swinging over a cross that big Tom McBride slid in at the far post, and Technical was a goal ahead after five minutes.
Injured Mosgiel striker Regan Coldicott could only watch from the bench as his young team-mates stemmed the tide, with some good passing movements and the occasional foray upfield.
Tom Stevens in the Mosgiel goal showed shot-stopping skills, but after Tech defender Ross Howard romped up and clipped a strong shot against the crossbar, McCormack followed suit, and after 35 minutes of defiance, Mosgiel conceded a second goal, then another just before halftime. Josh Stewart and Michael Naeverson converted for Technical.
Mosgiel had its moments - Jessie Wright, Tim Dunn and young James McGarry occasionally threatened - but they were crumbs at Technical's banquet.
Despite Technical's firepower, Caversham still leads the league after beating Queenstown 4-2 at Tonga Park.
Caversham coach Tim Horner has to be happy with top position, but to concede two goals was not in his plans.
Queenstown actually scored first, but Caversham nosed ahead to 2-1. In the second half, the visiting side equalised, then keeper Liam Little saved a penalty, which inspired Caversham to climb back in and take the 4-2 win.
Caversham scorers were Tom Jackson and Seamus Ryder in the first half, then Sam Collier and Tor Waechey.
Roslyn coach Colin Thom was biting his fingernails again, as his side struggled in front of goal, and drew 2-2 with a Green Island side that had pace and flair.
Despite a clinical passing move that set up Damo Foster to put Roslyn ahead, young Nathan McDonell equalised, and after a 1-1 halftime scoreline, referee Alan Martin awarded a penalty for an Aajay Cunningham handball. Nathan Gunn hammered in the spot kick, and coach Thom's cuticles started tingling again.
Green Island keeper Josh Dijkstra turned on a fine performance to earn coach Malcolm Fleming's man of the match award. One save, from a Mike Sannum shot, was worth the price of admission alone.
Thom oozed relief when Roslyn pressure finally paid off and Geordie Mansford hit the equaliser.
''Our finishing was poor, and what was on target was capably saved by young Dijkstra,'' Thom said.
Roslyn showed character to keep driving forward without the injured Sam Mepham and Cam Attwood, and with Tom Connor unavailable.
Island coach Fleming praised his side's patterned play.
''It was a vast improvement from last week, and 16-year-olds such as Nathan MacDonell and Ben Koire showed pace and potential.''
At the Caledonian Ground, University had a clear 2-0 win over bottom club Northern, which has yet to score and has conceded nine goals in two games.
