A strong Canterbury team finished a cold and wet weekend with four wins and 25 games to win the South Island women's interprovincial tournament, which was played over four rounds at St Clair during the weekend.
Otago came in second with two wins and 17 games after losing the morning initiative against Tasman on Saturday, going down by 3.5 to 4.5 games.
Tasman also had two points but, with only 12 games, had to be satisfied with third place, while Southland and Aorangi finished fourth and fifth respectively.
It was a close match between Otago and Canterbury yesterday, but the Canterbury tail wagged, giving it a slender 5-3 win over the home side.
Sylvie Williams (No 1)) and Kim Moggach (No 6) helped the Canterbury cause with four wins each, while Elisha Crosbie (No 4) and Nicole Woodgate (No 8) finished the weekend with unbeaten records.
Jo Hicks-Beach (No 2), Rebecca Tsai (No 3) and Susan Greig (No 5) all posted four wins for Otago, which augurs well for the Toro tournament in December as all were in the top five.
Otago emerged with a good record counting the top five, beating Canterbury 3-2, Tasman 3.5-1.5, Southland 4-1 and Aorangi 5-0.
