After a series of five trials, the Otago men's team to play on the North Shore in December looks set to be very different from the quintet which played in the national interprovincial tournament at Balmacewen last year.
Otago selection convener Greg Johnson has named the team to play Aorangi and Southland in Cromwell this weekend, and there are four newcomers in the top six.
There was a high standard in the trials but Brent McEwan (St Clair) will captain the team at No 1 after winning three of the selection events.
Jamie Anstiss (18) will play at No 2 after some hot form and low scoring, particularly in the early trials.
The former Queenstown golfer has moved to Dunedin and is in his first year of study at the University of Otago.
Mark Brooks staked his claim for the No 3 berth after winning the 72-hole Queenstown tournament two weeks ago.
He returned from the United Kingdom recently and has a greenkeeper position at The Hills course in Arrowtown.
Another returnee is Nick Borren, who recently came back to Dunedin from the Netherlands. His form is rapidly improving as he gets back to competitive golf and he finished strongly with 68 and 70 at North Otago.
Borren competed in the Southland matchplay last weekend, losing in the final to Invercargill's Matt Tautari.
McEwan and Brandon Hodgson, at No 5, are the only players returning from the 2012 campaign.
Sean Masters (Balmacewen) is an Otago gain after moving south to study physical education at the University of Otago.
He will play at No 6 this weekend and will not be fazed if he is promoted into the top quintet as he has played in two interprovincial tournaments for Northland.
