Four young Wakatipu and Central Otago golfing talents will take on their national counterparts in the Junior Tiger final in Palmerston North on December 6.

The young golfers won their respective divisions in the inaugural tournament at the Frankton Golf Club, near Queenstown, on Sunday.

Ryan Shutterworth (14), of Wanaka, shot 31 to win the boys 12-14 category.

Inia Logan (10), of Cromwell, won the boys 11-and-under title with a 32.

Laura Hoskin (14), of Arrowtown, won the girls 12-14 category after shooting 39, while sister Brigette Hoskin (11) won the girls 11-and-under category with a 57.

A field of 80 youngsters entered the nine-hole competition, which was one of 21 nationwide tournaments that aims to find New Zealand's "Junior Tiger".

The young golfer who wins the Palmerston North final will represent the country at the world junior championships in the United States, which includes a family trip to Disneyland.

Queenstown Golf Club junior convener Simon Boland said it had been "an absolutely sensational day" and the golf skills displayed by youngsters aged five to 14 had exceeded expectations.

About 30 children signed up as members of the club.
