Southern Steel shooter Te Paea Selby-Rickit was among the big omissions in yesterday’s Silver Ferns squad.

The 26-year-old was left out of Noeline Taurua’s latest squad to travel to England for January’s Northern Quad Series.

There were also  several other high profile omissions, including  former captain and defender Katrina Rore (nee Grant).

Edging out Selby-Rickit — who has played 37 tests since her debut in 2016 — were Maria Folau, Maia Wilson and Ameliaranne Ekenasio.

In the midcourt, Steel wing attack Gina Crampton retained her spot after being recalled at the end of the ANZ Premiership.

She is joined by Laura Langman, Kimiora Poi, Sam Sinclair and Whitney Souness.

Filling the defensive end are Karin Burger, Casey Kopua, Erena Mikaere and Jane Watson.

Temalisi Fakahokotau and Kelly Jury were unavailable as they continue to recover from injuries.

Taurua said it had been a tough squad to select after  a 25-player training camp this week.

"They have been put under the pump physically, mentally and emotionally,’’ she said.

"We needed to set the standard with what’s required within the team — I’ve been inspired by the intent and focus out on court.’’

"I’m liking what I’m seeing.

"I liked the quality that was out there and that people certainly weren’t taking their position for granted.

"Our strength is the collective.

"Everybody has contributed to the final 12 and because of that the door will remain open for everybody going into the ANZ Premiership. This is just one stage of the journey of where we need to get to.

"I’m grateful we have all committed we will do it together.’’

While July’s World Cup is drawing ever closer, Taurua  said spots were very much still open outside  the 12 selected.

"We can’t afford to close up shop — we’ve got to keep everyone in the mix.

"I’m not putting a line through anybody.

"We need everybody on board to raise the standard and to create that internal competition.’’
