Dunedin synchronised swimming sisters Nina and Lisa Daniels ended their Olympic Games today by finishing 23rd of 24 starters in the duet free routine.
It was the same position the Commonwealth Games bronze medallists had finished in the technical routine yesterday, again with only Egypt behind them.
They scored 40.500 for execution and 40.333 for overall impression, for a final score of 40.417. Australia finished 21st.
In the duet free, swimmers go through their own routine, whereas in the technical they have certain moves they must perform.
The first New Zealanders to compete in Olympic Games synchronised swimming since Los Angeles in 1984, the sisters and their Canadian coach Sheilagh Croxon were happy with their performance.
Katie and Lynette Sadlier contested the 1984 Los Angeles Games in New Zealand colours, but they did not have to go through the qualifying hoops the Daniels sisters endured to make it to Beijing.
