North Harbour’s Kerrin Harrison competes during a doubles match at the New Zealand masters badminton championships at  Badminton Hall yesterday.

The event has brought 111 players to Dunedin from around the country.

It began yesterday with the singles events. In the men’s competition, there were eight winners, with grades beginning at 35+ and going up in five-year increments to 70+.

Those winners, in order of age starting at 35+, were Jake Dickson, Trent Riddick, Ricky Clements, Trevor Campbell, Martin Lubransky, Jim Hoffman, Don Le Page and Angus Husin.

In the women’s competition there were 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+ and 70+ grades, with Andrea Vernall, Lana Perry, Delwyn Cooper, Fionna Pizzey and Pamela Bourke-Shaw being the respective winners.

The doubles finals were played last night, while the event concludes today with the mixed doubles.
