Three Otago figure skaters have qualified to represent New Zealand in Australia in November.
Rohan Kinraid, Emma Taggart and Zara Anthony-Whigham qualified for the Australian championships in Penrith after impressing at the national championships in Auckland at the weekend.
Kinraid won the men's intermediate section with a score of 27.77, Taggart won the women's intermediate with 26.83 and Zara-Whigham finished second in the women's novice with a 53.51 score.
Taggart was particularly impressive. She was up against six others, including talented Aucklander Sara Reynolds, but Reynolds failed to topple Taggart with her 25.74 score. Dunedin's Katie Sewell was the third best Kiwi with a score of 23.39, but Australian Georgia Wooderson edged her for third.
Emily Dickie, also of Dunedin, was seventh (18.45). Other results included. -
• Sarah MacGibbon finished second in the senior ladies (71.31).
• Tama Anthony-Whigham finished second in the men's pre-primary (19.45).
• Reuben Dougherty was third in the men's pre-primary (19.01).
• Asia Tapelava was third in the women's primary (25.89).
• Kaitlin Chamberlain was third in the women's novice (46.87).
• Laila Bekhit was third in the women's pre-primary (20.64).
• Otago's synchronised team, Icentric, finished second.
