Mountain biking: Otago riders off to world champs

Three Central Otago riders will represent New Zealand at next month's world mountain-biking championships in Canberra.

Kate McDonald, of Clyde, will line up in the under-19 grade in the cross-country event, while Georgia Wight, of Alexandra, will line up in the under-19 downhill event.

Also taking part in the downhill event is Matt Scoles, of Alexandra. He is competing in the tough elite section.

Scoles won a bronze medal in the under-19 grade at the world champs in Scotland last year.

He has been competing with mixed results in Europe but will return to New Zealand this weekend for a short period of training before leaving for Australia.

New Zealand is sending a team of 47 riders to the world championships in Canberra from September 1-6.
