Dunedin skater Lukas Ghidella (9) in action at the New Zealand speed skating championships at the Dunedin Ice Stadium at the weekend.

The championships attracted about 50 skaters from around the country, with competitors travelling from Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown.

Fifteen-year-olds Ethan De Rose, of Christchurch, and Mikayla Biggs, of Auckland, were the two standout performers. Both won the junior and senior titles in all four distances — 500m, 1000m, 1500m and 3000m.
