The Dodgers have claimed the Dunedin premier club title with a weekend to spare.
A thrilling 9-7 win over defending champion Saints and a 9-0 blanking of promoted club Waverley on Saturday ensured the Dodgers would claim the 2009-10 title.
The main interest in the upcoming final weekend of club softball will now be in the shoot-out for second place between the Saints and Ellis Park.
It looked bad for the Dodgers in the main game on Saturday as the Saints powered to a 6-1 lead.
But, in the bottom of the third innings, some Dodgers' bats started to fire.
Jamie Robinson whacked a two-run homer off Saints pitcher Sam Jones, and Aran Bailey was batted in by Jeremy Craik during a six-run innings.
Scott Cartwright scored in the fourth innings to give the Dodgers an 8-6 lead, before the Saints pulled one back when Lachie Brenssell batted in Mike O'Neill.
In the sixth, the Saints had Tim Howard on second with O'Neill at the plate.
O'Neill got the hit and Howard pushed for home, but Howard was tagged out following a nice throw from Cartwright in the outfield.
The Dodgers added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win and the overall title.
In the earlier game against Waverley, Bailey was a perfect 3-from-3, including two doubles, and Cartwright blasted a home run and pitched the shut-out.
One of the individual stars of the day was Luke Egan, who pitched Ellis Park to wins over the Cardinals (10-3) and Waverley (12-5) and hit home runs in each game.
Egan's younger brother, Vince, got into the action with a home run against the Cardinals.
The experienced Graham Duke was 2-from-3 with the bat for Waverley, which scored its first runs in the premier grade since being promoted.
