Softball: Howard named MVP

The multi-talented Tim Howard has been named the most valuable player in the Dunedin premier competition for his performances over the summer.

Howard, the classy Saints all-rounder, received the top award at the end-of-season function last night.

He guided Saints to a dominant season - they claimed the Success Cup for being overall champions - and finished second in pitching, with an ERA of 3.50, and third in batting, with an average of 0.491.

Jamie Robinson (Dodgers) won the batting award with his sparkling 0.519 average, and Jacob Wedlock (Cardinals) led the pitching with an ERA of 3.37.

Rising Cardinals star Hoani Iva-Keen was named most promising player, and his club received the Champions Cup for its victory in the season-ending tournament.

Reserve grade awards were presented to the Phoenix Flames (pre and post-Christmas winners) and Logan Herbert (most promising player).
