Surf life-saving: Preparing for nationals

St Clair will aim to get quality preparation for the national championships when the club competes at the Eastern region championships at Whangamata this weekend.

A team of 25 is the largest St Clair has sent to the event, and features a mix of proven class and up-and-comers.

Included are St Clair's four national squad members - Andrew McMillan, Carina Doyle, Andrew Trembath and Jessie Schneiders - as well as another nine medallists from last year's national championships at Mt Maunganui.

St Clair, the largest and most successful club in the Southern region, finished seventh overall last year.

An additional component for the Eastern championships this year is the inaugural Super 8 Challenge on Monday for the top eight clubs in the country. Eighteen athletes from St Clair will take part.
