Otago swimmers made a splash in the form of three gold medals during the first two days of the national short-course championships in Auckland.
Backstroke ace Andrew Trembath (18), Caitlin Deans (15) and Gabrielle Trotter (14) each have a gold medal to show for the first two days of competition.
Their gold medals go with the two silver and three bronze medals also won by Otago swimmers.
Trembath touched the wall first in 53.93sec to win the men's 100m backstroke.
The Neptune swimmer set the pace from the start, and finished 0.13sec ahead of rival Wilrich Coetzee, of Auckland.
Trembath was no match for Australian Donald Cameron and Aucklander Max Polianski in the 400m individual medley, but his time of 4min 22.33sec was still good enough for bronze.
Deans, who is also from the Neptune club, won her gold in the women's 15-16 years 200m freestyle.
She narrowly trailed Canterbury's Hannah Bates through the first 100m, but finished strongly to win in 2min 3.27sec, 0.24sec ahead of Bates.
However, Deans could not keep up with the Cantabrian in the 200m individual medley, instead settling for bronze in 2min 23.87sec.
Trotter timed her run brilliantly to win the women's 13-14 years 400m freestyle in 4min 31.02sec.
The Neptune swimmer trailed Aucklander Eve Thomas for the majority of the race, before finally hitting the front with 100m to go and eventually finishing 1.32sec ahead of Thomas.
Otago's Cecilia Crooks finished fourth in 4min 37.85sec.
Kate Godfrey (21) won silver in the women's 200m individual medley in 2min 14.19sec, while Courtland Ellis (15) won silver in the men's 15-16 years 400m individual medley in 4min 35.73sec, and bronze in the 50m breast stroke in 30.45sec.
The third night of finals was held last night.
