Team player has high personal goals

Hannah Williams, a year 12 pupil at Otago Girls High School, is a talented young sportswoman who has been selected in regional and national teams for netball, basketball and athletics.

She impresses coaches and selectors with her mature and determined approach, as well as her speed, agility and sharp shooting.

Hannah is a member of the Otago Girls High School senior A netball and basketball teams and the school athletics team, and is also in the Otago under-19 netball team at just 16.

Her greatest sporting achievements so far have been travelling to Canberra for the Pacific School Games team in 2008, winning the New Zealand 4 x 100m relay in 2007 and winning the New Zealand under-17 basketball championships.

Hannah was asked about her sporting goals and she reeled them off quickly.

"I would like to go to the Olympics for basketball or athletics, play top-level netball, win a 400m race this athletics season and play rugby for a season."

Hannah leads by example and is a motivation to younger athletes in her school teams.

This season, she has opted to concentrate on developing her netball and has declined the offer to be in the Otago under-19 basketball team.

This was a big decision for Hannah, as she has been with the same representative basketball team since she was 14.

Hannah cannot decide whether her favourite sport is netball, basketball or athletics.

"I like different sports for different reasons but I love them all."
