The Forbury Park Trotting Club has been granted an extra race date next month.

Harness Racing New Zealand chief executive Edward Rennell said the club had been keen to recover one of the four dates it had lost when the 2016-17 season licences were announced earlier this year.

The meeting will be an eight-race card on Wednesday, November 30.

"We’ve gone back and looked at the calendar," Rennell said.

HRNZ had "seen an opportunity where it could fit in from a racing perspective in terms of not compromising other meetings around Otago and Southland around the time" and  finding one which could "work for the club from an on-course perspective".

There are two grass-track meetings that week,  at Oamaru on December 3 and  Methven on December 4.

The only South Island meeting on an all-weather track is at Addington on December 2.

"We’re delighted with that," Forbury Park general manager Rodney Moore said.

"That was one of the things we discussed with HRNZ . . .  trying to get another race meeting in that Christmas period."
