Five horses worth considering for today’s wagers

The Gore grass track will be back in action tomorrow with a bumper 12-race programme. Harness racing journalist Jonny Turner has dived into all the form and found five horses to follow.

JACCKA ELVIS

Race 4

Jaccka Elvis already loomed as the horse to beat before the key scratching of his main rival Prosperity.

The pacer debuted at short odds at Winton last week producing a meritorious third.

This week’s field certainly doesn’t look any harder for the 3-year-old and from barrier 3 he should take all sorts of catching.

Those who backed him last week may have been disappointed not to cash in. However, his effort was solid and he is bound to return to the races better and wiser for having that experience.

IMPERIAL MAN

Race 6

On the talent scale, Imperial Man rates as one of the horses to beat in his Gore assignment.

But of all of the starters at his home track tomorrow, he is arguably the riskiest.

There look to be two key factors pointing towards the possibility of Imperial Man turning his form around.

He steps back significantly in grade into a very winnable race.

And he is racing on his home track, where he has won before on grass.

He’s a long way from being able to be called a solid chance, but there is no doubt Imperial Man has the talent to win.

ALWAYS A MENACE

Race 7

Drawing on the unruly in a 1750m sprint trip sounds like a recipe for disaster.

But it is a good thing that Always A Menace possesses plenty of talent.

The 4-year-old has taken her time to establish herself but, on what she has shown recently, it has been worth the wait.

The Gore pacer was a big fresh-up winner on grass at Cromwell last month before producing a strong second behind the very talented Secret Agent Man at Ascot Park.

While the mare won’t have it easy from the unruly, she looks the clear top pick of her field on talent.

PRACTICAL MAGIC

Race 10

Practical Magic just needs a little more luck than she got in her slightly unlucky last-start second to be a major force in tomorrow’s feature trot.

The mare was held up for much of the run home before warming up late in her runner-up effort behind Hidden Talent.

The pair clash again and Hidden Talent is once more the clear-cut favourite and the hardest horse to beat.

The step up in distance to 2750m looks to favour Practical Magic who again gets a 20m head-start on her main rival.

A smaller margin separated the pair in their previous one-two finish on grass at Riverton.

TUNEINSPORTSFANS

Race 11

Landing in the right race looks the key to Tuneinsportsfans taking his winning turn tomorrow.

The pacer doesn’t win out of turn, as can be seen in his one from 30 record.

But the horse gets a perfect opportunity to improve those numbers on his home track.

What Tuneinsportsfans does have is an outstanding record on grass tracks.

Combined with his excellent gate speed and premium draw in a very even field, he should get every chance to break through.
