Trainer Nigel McGrath and owners Paul and Pauline Renwick, who won 15 races with King Charlie, were successful at Methven yesterday with his brother Prince Eddie.

The 4yr-old Prince Eddie (Monarchy-Hands And Heels) won a maiden trot yesterday at his fourth start.

He was a $35,000 purchase at the 2010 premier yearling sale.

He is the third foal to race out of Hands And Heels.

The Jaguar Spur mare is also the dam of Shezoneoftheboyz, winner of the 2010 New Zealand Trotting Derby and Hambletonian when trained by Mark Jones.

The daughter of Brylin Boyz was then exported to Australia and won three of her four starts there.

King Charlie, winner of the 2007 Northern Trotting Derby, has been retired and he is now used as a riding hack.

"This fellow [Prince Eddie] has taken a while to come to it," McGrath said.

Prince Eddie qualified at Ashburton in January and he had his first race in March.

Dave and Jean Fahey, the successful greyhound trainers, had to settle for fourth with No Peace at Wentworth Park, Sydney, on Saturday night but their pacer Mr Murdoch won yesterday.

It was the third win for Mr Murdoch, trained and driven by Brent Borcoskie.

The Leithfield-based Faheys race Mr Murdoch with Doug Laing, of Sefton and the estate of his wife, Izzie. Mrs Laing bred Mr Murdoch from Jiffy's Girl, the winner of 13 races, including then 1990 Great Northern Oaks and Ladyship Stakes when trained by Peter Blanchard, for Doug Grant, of Oamaru.

Mr Murdoch (by Barnett Hanover) is the last of 10 surviving foals out of Jiffy's Girl, who is now in retirement on the Fahey property.

The race for No Peace was a lead-up to a major series in Sydney.

David Butcher, the Cambridge reinsman, has been chosen to represent New Zealand at the World Driving Championship in France in June next year.

"The board selected David Butcher on the basis of his continued excellence as a driver," Gary Allen, the chairman of Harness Racing New Zealand, said.

Butcher has driven 1872 winners including 34 group one races in New Zealand.

He has been associated with major winners Elsu, Changeover, Gaelic Skipper, Smooth Performer, De Lovely, Lauraella, Hot Shoe Shuffle, Mr Metallica and Tintin In America.

Butcher has exceeded 100 winners in the past three seasons.

Greyhound Racing NZ has announced stakes increases, from October 1. The stakes increases are sprints (10%); middle-distance and staying races, 15%; group and feature races, 5%.
