Racing: San Rafaella to reverse fortunes at Ascot Park

San Rafaella, who was found not to be in foal yesterday, could reverse her fortunes by winning at Invercargill tomorrow.

San Rafaella had been covered by McArdle.

"She was flushed today but did not have a fertilised egg," Peter O'Rourke, the manager of Spreydon Lodge, said.

"We will wait until next season before she is served again." San Rafaella gained value as a broodmare when she won the Equine Stakes at Winton in 1.54.8 at Winton on December 29. She followed up with a second in the Roxburgh Cup.

She has won at Ascot Park.

Jumpforjoy, who has gained four of her seven wins at Ascot Park, could be the stumbling block for San Rafaella.

The stage is set for intense rivalry between Ohoka Texas and Artiface in the Invercargill Cup tomorrow. Ohoka Texas is the $1.40 favourite in final field betting with the TAB. He has continued his superb form of last season. He has won four of his five starts including the Pelorus Classic by seven lengths at Waterlea last time out; a mile in 1.54.1 to equal the track record at Winton and a 10-length win at the New Zealand Cup meeting. Ohoka Texas has been trained this season by Mark Jones.

He won six from 13 starts last season when trained by David and Catherine Butt. His wins included the Southern Supremacy Stakes at Ascot Park. David Butt is the driver of Artiface, a clear-cut last-start winner of the Northern Southland Cup on the track.

Artiface is at $5.50 with the TAB.
