
Stackhouse out-rode his apprentice claim with two wins at Riccarton on Saturday, reaching 100 wins. He added three more, including a dead-heat at Wingatui yesterday.
The 20-year-old is the leading South Island rider this season with 66 wins.
Stackhouse rides at Riccarton next Saturday where his mounts include Hold It Harvey (Canterbury Gold Cup) and Dolmabache (Warstep Stakes). He flys to Adelaide the next day to ride the Mark Oulaghan-trained jumpers Clarence and South Road in trials at Oakbank on Monday. He rides the pair at the Oakbank Easter meeting.
Stackhouse won an open hurdles on South Road at Foxton and a maiden hurdles on Clarence at Wanganui last winter. Clarence later ran third to Joint Effort and Waitaha Toa in the Grand National Hurdles at Riccarton.
Stackhouse will return to New Zealand for a short time before transferring to Melbourne. He is still entitled to claim 3kg at city meetings there.
Stackhouse spent two weeks with the Moody stable in December and rode a winner at Taralgon. That sojourn was through a scholarship he was awarded by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing.
Stackhouse rode his first winner, Short Circuit, at Ashburton in August 2007 when apprenticed there to Ricky Donnelly.
He rode nine winners when apprenticed to Mark Walker at Matamata and has been with Pam Gerard at Ashburton for the past two years.
He has ridden eight winners over jumps and made his mark last winter with success on the Oulaghan-trained Yourtheman in the Hawke's Bay Steeplechase. He finished second on Yourtheman in the New Zealand Grand National Steeplechase behind stablemate Counter Punch.
