Harness Jewels redemption is a long-range goal for impressive Oamaru trotting winner BD Khaosan.

The Tom Bagrie-trained 4yr-old scored an impressive win to help driver Matthew Williamson win the Brothers In Arms driving series with brother Brad on Saturday.

"It was a big thrill to win the series on our home track.

"We drew some really nice horses which helped," Matthew said.

Matthew was the major contributor to the Williamsons’  success with two wins in the five-race series.

Brad  contributed with second, third and fourth placings.

The Williamson brothers finished with a total of 17 points to beat Aucklanders Jay and Sailesh Abernethy and Cantabrians Dexter and John Dunn, who tied for second on 12 points.

BD Khaosan’s victory clinched the series for the Williamsons who had an unassailable lead going into the last race of the competition.

The trotter stayed  off the hectic early speed set up by Playboy’s Brother and She’s Allthe Craze, before Williamson launched the horse for his winning run in the straight.

The victory also served as a final turning of the page of his nightmare Harness Jewels run last season.

After the shambolic start to the race, the horse galloped when trying to negotiate a galloping runner.

The incident has still affected the horse when he has been racing in close quarters, but Saturday’s performance signalled to trainer  Bagrie that BD Khaosan had put that behind him, he said.

Bagrie does not have specific targets in mind for the horse though he is likely to have one more start before bypassing the Christmas holiday racing circuits.

"We will give him a wee break now and look at a race in the new year," Bagrie said.

Bagrie’s father, Peter, won the final event on the Oamaru card with Bettor’s Heart.

The trainer has produced the 5yr-old mare for three wins from three starts at the venue.

Bettor’s Heart was tough in winning on the grass track, after being slow to begin for driver John Dunn.  Her two prior wins  at  Oamaru were on the all-weather track.

The second of Matthew Williamson’s Brothers In Arms series wins came via a contrasting drive on Calendar Girlz in race 6.

Rather than sitting off a hectic speed, the driver set a sedate pace in front with the Peter Robertson-trained 4yr-old.

After getting things her own way  at the head of the field, Calendar Girlz was able to reel off a sizzling 27.8sec final 400m  to win easily.
