Successful weekend for Barclay-Ellis partnership

Southland trainers Kirstin Barclay and Paul Ellis's winning roll did not stop after they prepared U May Cullect for a break-out performance at Addington on Friday night - they produced Luvtahavtime for her maiden win at Ascot Park on Saturday.

U May Cullect was the talk of Addington after he produced a brilliant turn of foot to win by 4-½ lengths.

The 5yr-old enjoyed a beautiful run in the trail and when Barclay asked him to go on the home turn he took off.

"It still feels unbelievable, really. I just gave him a couple of slaps with the reins and pulled the earplugs and gave him a bit of a roar.

"He has just got such an unreal turn of foot."

Injury problems have meant it has taken until late in his 5yr-old season for the Gotta Go Cullect pacer to show his brilliance.

Barclay said there had been no signs of those problems after each of his three excellent recent wins.

"The run and the trip up there haven't bothered him. He has been roaring around like an idiot since he got back.

"He is in the paddock for a couple of days following the normal programme we have with him."

A firm plan has not been set for U May Cullect's next start, but it could be on Diamonds Day at Ascot Park later this month.

Luvtahavtimewas aided by a well-judged front-running drive by Blair Orange.

"She got an easy run in front and sprinted home a nice sectional," Barclay said.

"She had a hard run last week and it was a step back in grade and the stand was a key for her."
