The Otago University rowing eight continued its international success when it finished runner-up at the International Universities Regatta in China at the weekend.
The two regattas, in Chengdu and Beijing, were both won by China's Tsinghua University, with Otago University runner-up at both.
At the first regatta, Otago University won its heat from Pavia University, Amsterdam and Harvard.
In the final, Otago had a slow start with both Tsinghua and Amsterdam getting out to a length lead, but Otago came back through the field and was in a fight to the line with Amsterdam.
Otago managed to sneak ahead of Amsterdam before the line and finished 0.7sec ahead of the Dutch crew. Tsinghua University won for the second year in a row by a length.
The regatta then moved to Beijing and was held on the 2008 Olympic course.
Tsinghua was again too fast and held on to a 2sec lead over Otago once the times of the two regattas were combined.
Amsterdam was third and Pavia fourth.
There were 12 universities competing, including Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Yale, Pavia (Italy) Amsterdam, the University of London and four Chinese Universities.
