
With the cancellation of the Maadi Cup, the event was the last of the season for school rowers.
Medals went to pupils from all around the district and there were plenty of golds won.
Dunstan High School’s Mackenzie Ealson and Paige Furrie won the under-17 double sculls while Mark Smith and Jack Pearson, of John McGlashan College, teamed up to win the under-16 doubles. Pearson won the singles in the grade, finishing just under a third of a second ahead of second-placed Smith.
The Mount Aspiring College under-17 quad of Pipi Horan, Emily Findlay, Lyla Chamberlain, Neve Faed and cox Patrick Hartley won gold while Faed, Findlay, Chamberlain and Hartley, teamed up with Samara Goodall to win the under-16 quad.
Horan and Boyd teamed up to win the under-15 double sculls while Horan and Findlay won the under-16 doubles.
Reuben Cook, of Otago Boys’ High School, had a successful meet. He won the under-17 singles and then joined up with Jono Burnside, William Haley, Cody Campbell and cox Jake Burgess to win the under-17 quad.
The Queen’s quad of Ella Edwards, Katie Child, Emmy Stedman and Ella Nesbitt, with cox Charlotte Williams, won the novice quads. Edwards and Child won silver in the novice doubles.
Shakira Mirfin teamed with Sarah Stewart to give Southland Girls’ High School the under-18 doubles while Mirfin won the singles in the same grade.
The Columba College four won gold in the under-16 grade. They were made up of Madison Sullivan, Siena Snow, Elyse Davey, Isabel Gallagher and cox Brooke Kendall.
Wakatipu High School won gold in the under-15 eights with the crew of Georgia Thompson, Olivia Key, Zara Mackley, Phoebe Cavanagh, Holly Rogers, Neve Bates, Mia Burgess, Ellie Shuttleworth and cox Emily Howick. Thompson, Key, Mackley and Burgess with Howick won the under-15 quad.
Oliver Herron and Oliver Bisley, also of Wakatipu, won the under-17 doubles.
